Delta Flight 126 took off
about 8 p.m. and returned to the airport about 90 minutes later,
according to a source familiar with aviation security at the airport.
The plane was taken to a
remote area of the airport, passengers were evacuated, and the wiring
was deemed not a threat, said David Castelveter, a spokesman for the
Transportation Security Administration.
There were 206 passengers on the plane, a Delta official said.
Authorities were planning to continue the flight.
Investigators questioned a
woman who complained of difficulty breathing at the time the wires were
discovered but ruled out the possibility that she lodged the complaint
to provide a diversion, said New York Police Department spokesman Paul
Browne.
A man who was believed to
have used the bathroom last before the wires were discovered was also
questioned and denied knowledge of the wires, Browne said.
No arrests have been made in the incident, Browne said.
